HOW TO HELP YOUR CHILD LEARN THE POLISH LANGUAGE:
Speaking:
-Talk often with your children in Polish;
– Encourage telephone conversations in Polish with other relatives (in Canada and Poland);
– Encourage children to watch Polish television, or to listen to Polish radio and music;
– Offer praise and support to your child for speaking Polish.
Reading:
– Read often with your child simple texts, picture books, comics- books at the level of your child’s knowledge;
-Help your child understand the text being read with questions and answers;
– While preparing for English school, use some Polish materials, to help your child strengthen and utilize both
languages;
– Offer praise and support to your child for reading in Polish.
Writing:
– Write short letters with your child to other family members;
– Write short notes to your child in Polish (“I will return at 5:00”, “Tom phoned”- in Polish);
– Revise your child’s work, focusing on grammatical and orthographical mistakes;
– Buy a Polish-English dictionary and orthography book;
– Praise and support the child that they are writing in Polish.
